Fall Festival in fusion with Sol Y Sombra
September 7, 2012 by Mark
Tomorrow, September 8, the Smithtown Township Arts Council will be hosting a Fall Festival in St. James, New York. The festival celebrates the North African influence of dance and music on Spain and features the Spanish dance company Sol Y Sombra performing to the works of composers Albeniz and Granados.
Other performers include Arturo Martinez, a popular guitarist, and, Thomas Chess, who plays the less conventional oud. The Movement of the People Dance Company will be performing its new piece Bonnie Récolte, a dance inspired by traditional West African and Afro-Brazilian dances.
The performances will be held on two nights. The first is tomorrow at 7:00 pm and the second is on Saturday, September 22, at 7:00 pm. It will be held in the Mills Pond Festival Tent and is free to attend. Both evenings include the performances by the group as well as a participatory workshop in Spanish dance. Attendees will then be able to stay and dance to the Latin music of Conjunto Sabori.
The Smithtown Township Arts Council works hard to create free arts programs for the public and printing companies are likely to be hard at work creating flyers to promote this event and draw in viewers from nearby areas like Brentwood, Islip, or Levittown. They may also be called on to create informational brochures to keep attendees up-to-date on upcoming events and so that the Arts Council can inform others of its mission to spread and support the arts.
