Concert set to rise to the challenge

April 3, 2013 by

To see in the weekend, Calhoun High School in Merrick, New York will be holding a benefit concert to raise funds for Challenge Day.

The performance will feature acts by Love in Motion, Toxin, Nick Tangorra, and American Idol finalist Robbie Rosen. All proceeds from the event will go towards bringing Challenge Day back to Calhoun High School.

Challenge Day is a non-profit organization that provides day-long programs, primarily at high schools and middle schools, which address common school issues like bullying, sexism, homophobia, and the pressures many kids feel over creating and maintaining an image. The company was founded in 1987 by Rich and Yvonne Dutra, both former educators.

Merrick is a short drive from areas like Freeport, Hempstead, and Island Park on Long Island. Organizers for the benefit concert may turn to printing companies to create posters and flyers that can be handed out in nearby areas to draw in more attendance. The bands participating in the event may also want to seek out flyer and poster printing services so that they have a way to notify guests of future venues at which they will be performing.

Scheduled for this Friday, April 5, doors to the concert open at 6:30 pm, and the first band is scheduled to go on at 7:00 pm. The show will last until around 10:00 pm. Tickets are priced at $10 at the door or $8 in advance and must be purchased at the high school.
