LIGBLT Festival to be held in Huntington
June 2, 2012 by James
Last week, on May 22, the Huntington Town Board unanimously authorized the Long Island Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Services Network to hold a festival in Huntington, New York.
The LIGBLT event will take place on Saturday, June 9, in Herscher Park, located next to the Hecksher Museum of Art and known for its athletic fields and open area picnic. It has also played host to several concerts and festivals, including famous performers Billy Joel and Ravi Coltrane, Jr. in 2006. The LIGBLT festival will be a new, fun addition at the location.
Highlights for the event include live performances, which will take place on the Harry Chapin Rainbow Stage, as well as beer and wine tastings and a food court. The event is set to begin around noon and end at about 8:00 pm.
There will also be a parade, which is supposed to take place between 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm. During that time, certain roads in Huntington will be closed to allow for the procession.
Printing businesses will be hard at work creating flyers and posters to promote the event. Similar material will likely need to be created in order to inform and remind residents of which streets will be shut down for the parade. Banners will also need to be printed for those who are marching in the parade, as well as for the various food and drink stands populating the park. The food vendors will also need their own promotional flyers and informational brochures in order to capitalize on the event and attract the attention of potential future patrons.
