Glen Cove set for Halloween spooks

October 13, 2013 by

Halloween is getting closer and, and the city of Glen Cove Parks and Recreation Department is holding two events this month that will no doubt help raise the excitement level before the big day.

The 3rd Spooktacular Howl’oween Parade is the first event taking place this month. People and their pets are invited to take part and travel down Pulaski and Glen Streets to Village Square. All participants will receive goodie bags and prizes for taking part. Awards will be given out in six categories, including Best Pet/Owner Costume, Smallest Pet, and Largest Pet. Vendors will also be on hand to sell a variety of merchandise.

The Downtown Halloween Parade, meanwhile, is a people-centric event. It will start at the Staples Center and finish on Pulaski Street, and there will be a spooky story hour at the Regency for the kids before the parade begins.

Children will be competing in three age groups for a costume contest. After the parade, several merchants will be having trick or treat, and activities will include a pie eating contest, an apple pie bake off, and pumpkin carving demonstrations.

Glen Cove print companies are likely to be helping the organizers prepare for the parade by providing products such as banners for walkers to hold.

The Spooktacular Howl’oween Pet Parade will take place on October 20 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (the rain date is October 27), while The Downtown Halloween Parade is being held on October 26 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. For more information about either of these, call 516-676-3766.
