Flushing confirmed to March into marathon
November 21, 2013 by Mark
Taking place within the historic and scenic Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the 2014 Allstate Life Insurance New York 13.1 Marathon has been scheduled in Flushing. The course will open for 3.5 hours, which averages out to a 16-minute mile pace.
The race will begin on Meridian Road running behind Luis Armstrong Stadium, following west to the turnoff for the ramp that leads to the North Bridge. Upon crossing it, runners will circle by the Hall of Science heading toward the zoo and onto the South Bridge on to Meadow Lake.
Refreshment stations will be positioned along the course and at the finish line, offering water and sports drinks. Portable toilets will be placed along the course near each aid station.
For the goal of changing the lives in Africa, Team World Vision is the official charity supported by Allstate. Creating awareness for children and raising funds to benefit clean water projects in Kenya and Malawi, the marathon encourages team involvement.
In addition to Allstate, other sponsors include Dole, Michelob Ultra, Ryder, and Spirit Airlines. Running gear is available through Team World Visions’ website.
Banner printing is an important project for local print companies. Banners are typically used throughout a marathon to guide the runners in the proper direction. They are also used at the event for parking and signage for areas, such as vendors, concessions and facilities.
