Two chances to hone educational skills this week

Elmsford and Tarrytown teachers and educators have the opportunity to attend an educational workshop on effective communication methods and activities designed to encourage students to learn.
Guests will experience hands-on techniques, including working with play-dough and paper mache, and creating a city made of recyclable materials. The session aims to find age-appropriate study materials for all students.
Participants will discover how young people learn through developmentally appropriate hands-on activities. The workshop is led by Effective Communications/Teach for Success, which offers a variety of educational programs for administrators and teachers. Admission is free. Coffee is provided but participants may want to bring their own breakfast.
This workshop will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at PASE, 120 New Broadway in Tarrytown.
Follwing that, on Saturday, September 28, the Stamford Innovation Center will present a class on building a website. This workshop in WordPress is designed for beginners and participants will leave with their own published site.
Admission includes lunch and a course workbook, as well as access to the Illuminate WP live training center for three months. Features to be covered include an overview of the editors and dashboard, how to publish a post and use the media gallery, creating a theme, managing pages and menus, moderating comments, using plug ins, working with contributors, and analyzing statistics.
The Stamford Innovation Center is located at 175 Atlantic Street in Stamford. Printing services can be used to create all kinds of instructional materials for teachers in their classrooms.
