Christmas trees and celebrations aplenty in Elmsford

Christmas is getting closer and closer and the annual Radio City Christmas Spectacular trip will be held this evening, Tuesday, December 18, ensuring that even those who have yet to get into the spirit of the season can finally get festive.
The bus leaves at 5:00 pm from the Community Senior Center, 10 North Stone Avenue, Elmsford. Tickets are $65 each and include show ticket and round-trip transportation. Tickets must be purchased in advance for a guaranteed seat.
For people struggling to come up with a novel way to celebrate the season, it might be fun this year to start a new tradition by choosing and cutting down a Christmas tree from a Christmas tree farm where they grow year-round. There are two such farms just over an hour away from Elmsford, so perhaps banner printing will be used to direct them in the coming days.
Shale Hills Farm in Sussex, New Jersey has 2,000 trees to choose from, including spruces and firs. Located at 98 Pond School Road, it is open from 10:00 am till dark weekends through December 24. Other attractions include farm animals, refreshments, Santa Claus, and movies. For more information, call (973) 875-4231.
Wyckoff’s Tree Farm, located at 249 County Road 519, Belvidere, is open daily from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm and features Douglas fir and blue spruce for cutting. Fraser fir and Douglas fir are available pre-cut. Other features include a gift shop, drinks, hot dogs, snacks, and wreaths on the weekends.
Make sure to bring a hand saw and arrive early to have time to look at several trees. Cut the tree close to the ground so that it can be trimmed later, allowing the tree to absorb the water.
