An explosion of free fireworks shows this July 4

Just a short drive from Elmsford to New York are many professional fireworks displays to enjoy this Fourth of July.

The villages of Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown will feature a joint fireworks display at 9:00 pm at General Motors. The fireworks can be viewed from either Kingsland Point Park or Pierson Park and the show will last approximately 30 minutes. Pierson Park is located at 238 West Main Street in Tarrytown.

The Big Apple will feature 40,000 shells fired from barges on the Hudson River. The event is sponsored by Macy’s and has been held since 1958. This year’s theme is American Harmony and will be synchronized to a variety of music.

The show begins at 9:20 pm but viewers are advised to arrive early to find good seats. They are advised to bring a warm jacket, as the air is cooler near the river.

The best viewing on the New Jersey side of the river can be found on the Hoboken and Weehawken waterfronts. Viewing is also available on the West Side Highway south of 45th Street.

The event can also be watched from the comfort of the living room as it will be televised nationally on NBC-TV. The special will last an hour and will include performances by top musical artists.

Guests can make a picnic of the event with snacks for the family, chairs to sit in, and cameras for photos. They can also blow up the best photos and make them into a picture album to share with family in other locations.
