Annual cherry blossom festival returns to Brooklyn

March 25, 2014 by

The 31st annual Sakura Matsuri, cherry blossom festival, is returning to Brooklyn for two days next month.

The festival celebrates both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, in addition to the cherry blossom trees at the botanic gardens. More than 60 events are expected to take place during the weekend. These will include workshops, taiko drumming performances, and a Cosplay fashion show.

The 5th Cosplay Fashion Show is currently accepting applications from individuals or groups of up to four people to participate. Costumes must be based on anime movies, television shows, manga, or video games. They have to be handmade and appropriate for a family friendly event. Those who wish to participate must register before April 1 and should be over the age of 13.

Brooklyn printing companies are often asked to help advertise events like this by providing services such as flyer and poster printing. Organizers can then distribute them all over the community to encourage people to visit.

The 31st Sakura Matsuri festival will be held at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden from April 26 to 27 from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm each day. Tickets are $25 or $20 for seniors and students; children under the age of 12 are admitted for free. The Cosplay Fashion Show will take place at the main stage on April 27 from 5:15 pm – 6:00 pm. Visit the Garden’s website for more information.
