Queens revs up for NYC marathon

The Queens Center for Progress (QCP) will have runners participating in the annual New York City Marathon, which will be coming in a few days.

The Queens Tourism Council, the Queens Distance Runners, and QCP are encouraging everyone to turn out to root for the runners as they pass through Queens. More than 50,000 runners are expected to participate in this year’s race. According to an event flyer, the QCP team will be made up of Brett, Barney, Jennifer, Tom, Laura, John, and Tony.

One way to show these runners support is to attend the Runner Appreciation Dinner. This will be held a couple of days before the marathon and will require a RSVP and prepayment. It will include a salad, chicken, pasta, coffee, and dessert.

Another big way is to be a non-running participant in the marathon and cheer the runners on instead. Family and friends here in Bellerose will want to take banners and head over to Long Island City to cheer for their favorite runners during the race.

The Appreciation Dinner will be held Friday, November 4th, 6:00 pm at Manducati’s, 13-27 Jackson Avenue in Long Island City.

The Long Island City Cheer Station will be at 44th Drive and 21st Streets in Long Island City. The race will be this Sunday, November 6, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.
