Local group seeking people brave enough to take the Polar Bear Plunge

This January, Wall Township residents will have an opportunity to take part in an event that combines an icy New Year’s Day plunge with fun and supporting not-for-profit groups in their efforts to help the community.

This annual event, which is organized and hosted by the Sons of Ireland, sees a group of intrepid bathers take to the cold waters off of Asbury Park. A crowd of onlookers can be counted upon to stand on the shore and cheer them on, and it offers plenty of fun for all.

People come out dressed in everything from a traditional bathing suit to bikinis and funny costumes, and even the family dog can get in on the act. The participants form a procession that includes a color party and bagpipers, which marches out to the beach and into the water. Some run in and out in a few seconds, while other stay and swim for as long as they can stand the cold. T-shirts and other branded merchandise for an event like this can be produced by a print company.

People who are interested in taking part in this year’s Polar Bear Plunge on January 1 are invited to form a group or turn up on their own. A link to register, along with further details about the festivities, can be found on the event’s website.
