The 23rd Annual Gift of Music Gala Benefit Concert was presented yesterday evening by the JCC Thurnauer School of Music and featured Paquito D’Rivera and the Latin Jazz Ensemble – a Grammy Award Winner.
This gala marked a special tribute for Dr. Galit M. Sacajiu and Avi – a pair of exceptional humanitarians. As part of this fundraising event, the ‘Grand Finale’ featured over 100 of Thurnauer’s students working with Mr. D’Rivera and his ensemble – meaning that there were plenty of reasons why catalog printing could have been used to list everybody involved, while brochure printers are always able to create a nice souvenir of these kinds of event.
The performance was entitled ‘Mambo Vivo’ and was specially arranged for the students by jazz musician and composer Elio Villafranco. The gala event honored outstanding artistry and celebrated the school’s advocates in musical education for children, while also raising funds towards scholarships, supporting the school’s programming, and paying for over 120 concerts performed free during the year. Scholarships support the Music Discovery Partnership – a 15-year partnership with the Englewood Public School District.
An event that took place at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (PAC) in Englewood, New Jersey, down the road from Northvale, ticket prices ranged from $50 to $250, while children under 18 paid just $25.
There is still plenty more to come over the next few days at the Bergen PAC, including an appearance tomorrow from prog-rockers Kansas, a showing this Saturday from veteran singer Jay Black, and improvisational comedy on February 8 from Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood. Tickets for all of these events can be bought from the venue’s website.
