Jazzing things up not far from Northvale

April 21, 2013 by

‘The Songs of Laura Nyro’, performed by Shepley Metcalf, will bring people in the area some passionate and exceptionally well-written songs by the superb cabaret and jazz singer.

Many of Nyro’s songs were popular during the 1960s and 1970s and will bring back delightful memories of those decades. The performance was likely promoted using poster printing and brochure printing through local print companies.

Shepley Metcalf presents Nyro’s songs with deep passion and the audience will hear many of the lesser-known pieces that were written by the jazz legend, including ‘Eli’s Coming’, ‘Stoned Soul Picnic’, and ‘And When I Die’. Backing up Metcalf on the evening are Willard Dyson on the drums, Jim Whitney on bass, and Janice Friedman on piano.

This show celebrates the group’s CD release and includes the poignant and wonderful ballad ‘I Never Meant to Hurt You’, the classic cult track ‘Emmie’, and ‘Save the Country’ – which is known as a rally cry. Audiences are sure to be moved by these classic songs and enjoy a night that they will not soon forget.

Tickets for ‘The Songs of Laura Nyro’ are $20 per person, and it will be performed on Friday, April 26 at 9:30 pm, and again on Saturday, April 27 at 7:00 pm at The Metropolitan Room located at 34 W. 22nd Street in New York City, a short drive from Northvale, New Jersey.
