Thai and Indian cuisines share a lot of the same types of dishes, and a new restaurant in West Caldwell, about 6 miles from Livingston, allows foodies who like both types of cooking to enjoy them in one place.

Citrus Restaurant, which already operates one location in upstate New York, has opened a second in West Caldwell, at 555 Passaic Avenue.

The restaurant manager, Sanju George, says the idea behind Citrus is simple: those diners who like Thai food can find it there, while family members or friends who like Indian cuisine can enjoy their favorite meal too. Perhaps best of all, people who like both types of food can pick from the entire menu and create an East Asian feast.

The dishes include traditional Indian fare, such as beef vindaloo and chicken tikka masala, while Thai menu items include mixed vegetables in a spicy, sweet coconut sauce. There are also vegetarian options available. Citrus offers a lunch buffet daily as well as an a la carte menu.

Citrus is open for lunch from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm. Monday through Friday; dinner Monday through Thursday from 5:00 pm. to 9:30 pm, and Friday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. On the weekends, lunch is from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm; Saturday dinner is 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, but on Sunday the hours are shorter, with dinner from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

Citrus could work with experts in poster printing to create eye-catching displays throughout the area. The restaurant might also consider asking flyer printing specialists to devise a suitable item for direct mail distribution.
