Local senior facility honored

Right here in Denville, we have a finalist for the Nursing Home/Assisted Living Facility of the Year.
Franciscan Oaks, part of Saint Clare’s Health System, is one of two finalists for the award. Winners will be announced at the NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes awards ceremony from 8:00 am – 10:30 am today, June 18, at The Palace at Somerset Park.
Regardless of whether Franciscan Oaks wins, the nomination and the attainment of finalist position will be noteworthy enough to include in the facility’s future catalog printing. Future residents and their families will find it extremely interesting, not to mention comforting, to know the basis of Franciscan Oaks’ inclusion. The excellence of care and compassion shown to residents when it became necessary to evacuate the facility during Hurricane Sandy is the basis for the nomination.
Franciscan Oaks not only had the foresight to make a workable plan for evacuating but worked the plan in an efficient manner that inspired confidence and calm in the residents. Most impressive is the personal acts of kindness show by staff as they helped residents leave the buildings, even to the point of giving up their shoes for residents wearing none.
The NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes awards recognized those individuals and organization that made notable contributions to the quality of healthcare in New Jersey. Several healthcare providers and health insurance companies sponsor the event, produced by one of New Jersey’s primary business news publications.
Although due to time restraints individual speeches will not occur, group photos will be taken at the end of the ceremony.
