Art show to make a splash among Essex County seniors

July 31, 2013 by

The 36th annual Essex County Senior Citizens Juried Art Show is taking place in Cedar Grove from August to September.

The art show is a presentation of the Essex County Division of Cultural and Historic Affair. It is for both professional and non-professional artists residing in Essex County who are aged 60 and over. Each senior can submit two items, both of which must have been created within the past three years. Entry is free and all items must be submitted by August 8.

Works must be between 11 and 36 inches, while sculpture and other 3D items must be no larger than 18 inches. Art works must be properly framed, covered in Plexiglas, and matted with wires for hanging.

Seniors will compete in 11 categories: acrylic, craft, computer imagery, photography, prints, mixed media, drawing, paste, watercolors, oils, and sculpture. The first place winners of each category will have the opportunity to enter the New Jersey Senior Art Contest.

The art show is widely advertised throughout Essex County. No doubt the organizers have invested in services such as flyer printing to help notify seniors from all over, including Bloomfield.

The arts festival will take place at the Essex County Hospital Center from August 9 – September 2. The awards presentation will be held on August 14 beginning at 10:00 am. For more information about the show, or to submit works as part of the contest, contact Lisa Payne at 973-239-7056.
