Art avalanche to come to Albuquerque

November 9, 2013 by

The Weems International Artfest is one of New Mexico’s major international art events and is a juried show featuring many local artisans, as well as international creative types.

Artists that appear in this showcase agree not to appear in other art shows within three weeks before or after it takes place. Each year, there are more than 200 artists that display their work, and this year’s 2013 Artfest Poster Artist is B. C. Nowlin, who is a native son of New Mexico from the Sandia Indian Reservation. His canvases display Hispanic influence and American Indian spirituality, and will no doubt give inspiration to any poster printing enthusiasts in the area.

This year, the Weems International Artfest is honoring two renowned artisans, including Reynaldo Sonny Rivera, who has more than 40 years’ worth of public art commissions and creativity, and John Trever, one of New Mexico’s premier political cartoonists who has been syndicated nationally and has published three books, which he will be signing at this event.

The cost to attend the exhibition $6 per adult, $5 per senior, and children under 12 are admitted free. It will be happening on Friday, November 15, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, Saturday, November 16 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Sunday, November 17 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the State Fair Grounds located at 300 San Pedro Drive NE in Albuquerque, New Mexico. To find out more about who is exhibiting or about special guests and honorees, please visit the Weems International Artfest website or call Desiree Cawley at 505-764-1164.
