Walmart to open new store in southeastern Massachusetts

Officials from Walmart recently announced that they are continuing their growth efforts in Massachusetts with the expansion of an existing store in Avon, as well as the opening of a second store in Raynham, which is just outside of Seekonk.

The Raynham store is the second one in the town and will offer a garden center, grocery department, and some automobile services in addition to its regular merchandise.

According to store manager, Ashley Viveiros, the Walmart Supercenter will be 152,000 square feet in size and have 300 employees when it opens in early March. She has said that more half of the employees have been hired. It is likely to be using flyer printing to let people know of other opportunities in the store.

In Avon, Walmart is expanding the store there by 30,000 square feet to a total of 150,000 square feet so as to make room for a bakery, as well as sections for dairy, fresh meat, produce, and deli, says store manager Scott Wokoske. These food options will provide Walmart’s customers with an alternative to go grocery shopping at affordable prices.

Wokoske added that 80 full- and part-time employees will be hired in the store, which will bring the total number of employees to 300. People are able to apply every day of the week, and so far he has already hired about 25 people. The grand re-opening is planned for April 9.
