Super summer kicks off Apr 28 at Malden YMCA
April 20, 2012 by Sarah
To get school kids excited about being outdoors during the summer, the Malden YMCA is holding a special physical activity day on Saturday, April 28. Healthy Kids Day will be a day of fun and learning at no cost to families.
The day will begin with a mini-marathon, a race event which will be held on a course that will run between Malden High School and the Malden YMCA. The first 100 participants to finish the race will get t-shirts at no charges. Races are always great opportunities for print companies to produce posters, race kit materials and race bibs when required.
The director of youth and family services of the YMCA noted that during the summer months, parents need to encourage their children to keep active, both physically and mentally. Healthy Kids Time, said Jose Mendez, is designed to kick-start a summer long habit of getting outside for fresh air and activity and intellectual pursuits such as reading, so kids keep at the top of their game before the next school year starts. Healthy Kids Day helps kids retain learning during the summer break and helps in the fight against childhood obesity.
Healthy Kids Day will begin with the mini-marathon. Shotgun start will be 9:00 am. The big event itself goes from 10 am to 1 pm. Activities scheduled are basketball games and Laser Tag. There will be a draw for a complimentary bike helmet, sponsored by the Malden YMCA on behalf of an anonymous person.
