Golden Tornado Club inducts mayor into hall of fame

November 23, 2013 by

The Golden Tornado Club Hall of Fame recently awarded Mayor Gary Christenson of Malden the Distinguished Service Award at its 2013 banquet. The club is likely to be using poster printing to make the Malden community aware of the Mayor’s achievement.

Jeff Christenson, the Mayor’s father, presented his son with the award. Each year, the club hands out an award to a resident of Malden who has demonstrated leadership skills and support of student athletics in the city. As a booster organization, the club is dedicated to and supports student athletics in the public schools of Malden, while also holding a variety of events to raise funds to benefit sports clubs and endeavoring to develop programs for the students.

Christenson graduated from Malden High School in 1986 and is one of six others from the city to have been inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. The other inductees for 2013 are Bobby Ryan from the class of 2000, Brian Noone (1982), Brian Blumsack (1998), Paul Murphy (1982), Nick Cox (2000), and John Taglieri (1978).

Christenson issued a statement upon receiving his award, saying that getting it has been an honor worthy of prestige. He added that the recognition puts him among some of the finest in Malden and that he will do whatever he can to continue his endeavors in supporting the student athletes of the city.

Golden Tornado officials will no doubt be preparing for the group’s Christmas Tournaments, for which tickets are now available.
