Students perform in band and wind ensembles

The Honors Middle School Concert Band and the Northeast Massachusetts Honors Youth Wind Ensemble were recently held at the Galvin Middle School in Wakefield in which music students from North Andover performed. The ensembles were comprised of students from more than 10 Northeast Massachusetts areas.

Syracuse University presented the honors youth program, which is now in its fourth year, and enables band students with advanced capabilities to rehearse and perform together. The program is led by director of bands at Syracuse University, Dr. Bradley P. Ethington, and director of bands at Wakefield High School, Thomas Bankert. Most likely students and their families from the community of Andover would want to attend this special performance.

Band directors Chris Nelson and Matt Ignos nominated several students from North Andover Middle School. Two students played the trombone, three students played the trumpet, four students played the flute, and one each played the oboe, clarinet, and alto saxophone.

Other students from North Andover High School were invited back to play in the Honors Youth Wind Ensemble. Two students played the clarinet, three students played the flute, two students played percussion, and one each played the tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, and tuba.

Students such as these might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to publicize their achievements using posters and various other printed materials.
