Shelton kindergarten registration planned
January 10, 2012 by Mark
Kindergarten registration will be held soon at each of the five elementary schools in the Shelton School System. Children who will turn five prior to January 1, 2013, may register at their assigned schools. Shelton elementary schools include Booth Hill, Elizabeth Shelton, Long Hill, Mohegan and Sunnyside.
Registration will be held Monday, January 23 through Friday, January 27 between 9:30 a.m. and noon, and again from 12:30 p.m. 3:30 p.m. Parents must bring two documents to verify their residency to the registration, such as a utility bill, valid driver’s license or mortgage receipt. Without such proof, parents will not be allowed to sign up their child for kindergarten.
The school district also requires a certified birth certificate of the child and immunization records. Parents must provide proof that their child has been vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), diptheria, pertussis and tetanus (DPT), polio, tuberculosis and chicken-pox. Flyer printing may be used to run off physical examination forms that will be handed out during registration and must be returned to the school prior to first day of school to confirm that your child is up-to-date on his or her vaccines.
The American Academy of Family Physicians says parents concerned about the safety and potential side effects of vaccines can rest assured that they are generally safe and any reactions are typically minor. Temporary side effects may include fever, or soreness or a lump under the skin at the injection site. Your child’s doctor can explain more about the side effects associated with certain vaccines.
