Rocky Hill on the run in support of Haiti
September 14, 2013 by Mark
The Hoof-it for Haiti 5k Run will be held later this month in Rocky Hill starting at Brook Street. Each dollar raised goes to St. Anne’s Parish, St. Elizabeth Seton Church sister church, which is located in Saintard, Haiti.
A total of $1,000 of the proceeds will go to feeding, housing, teaching, and providing medical care to those in Haiti whose lives were affected by the earthquake three years ago. The rest will be used to fund non-essential programs abroad.
Jeff Cantin, the race’s organizer, stated that 128 people showed up last year to run or walk the 5k and raised $37,000. It was enough to provide the first floor of the school with educational materials and complete construction on the second floor. They dedicated it over the summer once it was finished.
Attendants will have a chance to buy fall mums, with those proceeds also going to Haiti, and watch the Glastonbury Willari’s Martial Arts Demo Team’s performance. As is the case for many events of this type, it will not be surprising if print companies in the area are involved in the promotion.
Kicking off the race this year will be Mike Stacy from Lite 100.5 WRCH. The Last Mile Racing will start the time at 9:30am at St. Elizabeth Seton. Water stations will be available at various points along the 5K, most of them manned by Girl Scouts from Rocky Hill.
After the race, massage therapy will be provided by Nova Spa. Reiki will also be provided by Inner Balance Reiki.
The event will be held on September 21.
