Ship sails on boating season in Norwalk

Once again, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) will host its annual boat show in Norwalk later this month.

The Progressive Insurance 2013 Boat Show will offer residents and visitors a chance to view and acquire new vessels, such as sailing and motor yachts, kayaks, performance boats, and sport fishers. Visitors can also buy the latest boating accessories, enjoy activities on the water, and attend boating classes such as stand-up paddling for paddle boards and kayaks.

Attendees can go to free informative classes like the fishing, sailing, and boating sessions, the marine diesel class or workshops presented by the Annapolis School of Seamanship. Other workshops topics will include power-boating and other boating skills. Free power-boating rides, as well as free rides on the new amphibious boats, will also be offered. Demonstrations such as yoga for stand up paddling be available too.

Competitive-minded attendees can try a wing-eating contest, and will also have a chance to win a $500 shopping extravaganza or even a British Virgin Islands trip. Children can build toy boats, get their faces painted, weave around a small lake in a paddleboat and meet Dora the Explorer. Brochure and business card printing will probably be needed for boat manufacturers, boating instructors, and marine accessory vendors so that they have items on hand to pass out to potential clients.

The show will be held Thursday, September 19 – 22 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Norwalk Cove Marina, 48 Calf Pasture Beach Road, East Norwalk. Adults can purchase advanced tickets online for $13 or pay $15 at the site. Children aged 15 and under get in free.
