Trees a crowd at weekend festival

Celebrating its ninth year, The Festival of Trees is a fundraising program to help families in need of a little assistance at this time of year. This is a family’s chance to purchase a tree that has been custom decorated and will be delivered directly to their home.

During this fundraising activity, the DNLA creates live Christmas trees with various themes. Last year, some of the themes included circus, vintage maritime, peacock feathers, and the seashore. These trees are available for viewing before being auctioned on the day of the event. The DNLA then delivers the fully-decorated Christmas trees to the winner’s home the next day. This event also has hors d’oeuvres, wine, and beer available.

Proceeds from the Christmas tree auction will benefit the New London ‘Community Meal Center’ and provide delicious holiday meals for local families. This group also works with Covenant Shelter by donating fully-decorated trees to local families that cannot afford to purchase one. Print companies are often called upon to promote the message at events like these, so it would be no surprise to see poster printing in force this week.

Tickets for this event cost $12 and are available at GreenLight Boutique, 66 Bank Street and Bijou Salon, 256 Boston Post Road in New London. The Festival of Trees fundraiser will be held this Saturday, December 1, starting at 6:00 pm, at the New London Elks located at 81 Washington Street in New London, Connecticut.
