February 8, 2012 by Sarah
Another planning meeting will be held on Thursday, March 8 for the 2012 Monroe/Trumbull Relay for Life cancer walk. The meeting gets underway at 6 p.m.at Nichols United Methodist Church.
The upcoming Relay For Life event is sponsored by the American Cancer Society of Monroe/Trumbull. Participants walk around the clock in support of the fight against cancer. The goal of the Relay is to help further the American Cancer Society’s efforts to prevent and cure cancer, improve cancer treatments and prolong lives.
The upcoming meeting will be split into two groups. The planning committee is responsible for making the necessary arrangements for the event. Team associates will recruit team members, brainstorm to come up fund raising ideas and handle registration.
Teams of residents will meet at an athletic track at Masuk High School in Monroe at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 8. The walk will continue until dawn. Walkers are allowed to camp out at an athletic track or elsewhere. The goal is keep one or more team members on the track at all times throughout the night. Although most fund raising takes place prior to the event it’s not unusual to see teams fund raising during the Relay.
Those interested in organizing a team or joining the planning committee are encouraged to attend the March meeting. Flyer printing may help get the work out that people are encouraged to help make the Relay for Life a success.
