SoNo Arts Festival coming up next month
July 21, 2012 by Mark
When it comes to a celebration of the arts, many people consider ‘bigger’ to mean ‘better.’ On the first weekend in August, a huge festival of the arts will be taking place in the South Norwalk (SoNo) Historic District, about an hour’s drive from middletown, with enough material and variety to ensure that everybody should go home happy that their thirst for art has been quenched.
The two-day event, which usually attracts over 50,000 visitors, will kick off with a party on August 3. The actual celebration, the 37th Annual SoNo Arts Festival, will take place Saturday and Sunday, August 4 – 5. As usual, the festival will feature the works of over 150 talented artists displaying their wares at their designated booths along South Main Street. They may choose to invest in banner printing to accent and define their spaces and, since the event will be a major form of advertisement for the artists and craftsmen, they may want to have some business card printing done as well. This is often a good way for artists to get their name known, and they could opt to have a sample of their work printed on the card.
The festival will be juried and the displayed work must all fall under ten categories that include printmaking, jewelry, mixed media, photography, ceramics, sculpture, glasswork, and paint. The celebration will also feature live music performances by popular artists, puppet shows, and a children’s art playground.
The event is free for all ages and food and beverages can be purchased from the Food Court on Washington Street.
