Tree-mendous day out for East Haven folks
November 25, 2013 by Mark
Now is the time to start thinking of fresh-cut Christmas trees, and a local nursery is helping people to start a new tradition by harvesting one fresh from the grower. No doubt print companies have been busy in recent weeks helping it to promote this service.
Broken Arrow Nursery has live Christmas trees available for the choosing, thus offering a festive outing for East Haven residents. The nursery began as a 4H project and is now a family business. It has two locations – 13 Broken Arrow Road and 680 Evergreen Avenue, both in Hamden.
Christmas trees are available for selection at the Broken Arrow location for those who would like a tree for Thanksgiving. Available trees at the Broken Arrow Nursery include Colorado blue spruce and a variety of firs. The Evergreen location has firs, Concolor fir, white pine, and spruce.
On Tuesday, November 26, the nursery will hold a wreath-making workshop at which participants can make a live wreath that will last through the holidays and scent the house naturally. Those interested can call the company at (203) 288-1026.
Some tips offered for cutting trees include measuring the height of the ceiling for the room before cutting the tree, buying a stand appropriate for the size of the tree, and wearing sturdy shoes for walking, as well as comfortable clothes.
The nursery provides saws and poles to check the heights of trees, but stresses that no power saws are allowed. Precut trees are also available for those who would prefer not to get involved with the cutting.
