Local nonprofit is awarded $30,000 grant

A Greenwich nonprofit, Community Centers Inc., is to be the first organization to benefit from a $30,000 award from a local grant-funding organization.

The organization, Pitch Your Peers, is the brainchild of founding members Brooke Bohnsack, Dara Johnson, Nina Lindia, and Rachael LeMasters, who hope to award grants annually to local charities or nonprofit projects.

The organization’s membership currently stands at 37 and are all women from Greenwich. The invitation-only membership helps to ensure that this select group of philanthropic women can keep the focus on identifying and promoting Greenwich nonprofits deserving of a monetary grant.

Selected members become Grant Champions, representing a chosen charity which they then research and visit, gathering as much information about the charity or project as possible. This information is then pitched to the group at a Pitch Meeting, after which members, by secret ballot, vote for the nonprofit they feel is the most deserving. Presentation folders may also be used during the pitch to reinforce facts and figures.

Bohnsack said:

“The Pitch Your Peers process highlights the membership’s existing skill set of sales, marketing and public speaking, all the while educating the membership about deserving charities right here in Greenwich.”

Community Centers Inc., the winner of the first Pitch Your Peers award, has been providing counselling and educational programs for over 60 years.
