Fairfield residents ready for action at Portland Agricultural Fair

The Portland Fair Association proudly presenting its annual Portland Agricultural Fair next weekend. Just forty five minutes from Fairfield, the event will include live entertainment, such as a country and Beatles cover band and 40s to 90s dance music.

A kids’ talent contest for 1st up to 8th graders will be held on the main Stage at 11:00:00 on Sunday. At noon that day in the Boneyard, there will be a canine contest for silliest, spookiest, cutest, most original, and best in show pooches competing for prizes.

Also on Sunday will be Kids’ Day, with face painting, bubblegum blowing contests, three-legged races, and sack races. There will be competitive exhibits of livestock, collections and crafts, fiber and spinning, photography, flowers, needlework, pastry and breads, and fruit and vegetables. A youth department will exhibit vegetables, baking, crafts and, sewing for judging and prizes. The truck pull is scheduled for Sunday at 4:30 pm. Horse pulls available on Saturday, along with oxen pulls on Sunday.

Printing services may want to look into printing the Fair books next year, or enter a scarecrow representing their company in the contest. The scarecrows will be exhibited and judged at the fair, and afterwards erected along Main Street until after the 11 Annual Halloween Downtown celebrations.

Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, and children under 10 are free. The Fair will be held October 11, 12, 13, at the Exchange Club Grounds Rt. 17A in Portland.
