Fairfield library to revel in reading
March 12, 2014 by Mark
Fairfield Woods Branch Library is hosting an event called ‘Be a Superstar Mystery Reader!’ today with the aim of encouraging parents to participate in an out-loud reading program at their children’s school. Librarians will offer suggestions to help boost the confidence of parents who may be hesitant to read aloud to children.
Librarians Judy Sparzo and Beth Sahagian will be offering book ideas, out-loud reading, technique tips and ideas on how to engage students with different reading styles. The overall objective is to give parents the boost they might need to get them to sign up for the guest Mystery Readers program being held throughout the county. Studies have shown, the librarians note, that children that are read to generally demonstrate more interest in reading themselves as they grow older.
This event is being presented as part of the Library’s Pathways to Parenting series, dedicated to expanding literacy and an overall increase interest in reading throughout the community by offering programs designed to engage parents in the process. Parents who participate may wish to visit a local print company after the library event to have poster printing carried out for their visit to their child’s school when their turn to read arrives
The library event is being held at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library-Platt Walsh Room, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road, Fairfield.
