Tradition of Mum-A-Thon continues in Bristol
September 4, 2013 by Mark
Bristol’s Sports Hall of Fame has announced the running of its 44th Mum-A-Thon, one of Connecticut’s oldest continuing athletic events.
The 5K event begins by traveling east down Meadow Street behind the Police station and City Hall, turning left on Laurel Street, then right at North Main Street, and left along School Street, continuing to the end of Memorial Boulevard. The course then reverses direction before ending on Meadow Street.
This new fast flat course winds through downtown Bristol and is available to those participating in either the Road Race for those runners who enjoy fast-paced competition, or The Fitness walk for those who prefer a slower and more leisurely pace. Platt Systems will provide professional timing and special bib tags. A team of 20 volunteers and water stations will be available along the route for safety. Those who wish to publicize the goings-on may want to have poster printing done by local printing companies.
Awards will be presented in nine categories, from 10 years and under to the oldest category, 70 and over. Early registration fees for the 5K race and the walk are $18 for preregistration and $20.00 for registration after September 18. Kids run for $5, with proceeds going to Bristol’s Sports Hall of Fame.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 28. Participants must register by September 25 to be guaranteed a T-shirt, but registration can be completed from 7:00 am to 8:30 am on the day of the race, at which time the shirts are available first come first served. The 5K Race and Fitness walk will begin at 8:30 am, and the 1/8 mile Kids Fun Run starts at 8:15 am.
