Madison Opera to show appreciation with outdoor event
July 19, 2016 by Max
To show appreciation to all its patrons over the last 15 years, Madison Opera will be presenting a free two-hour concert, called Opera in the Park.
The evening’s performance will be outdoors under the stars and more than 15,000 friends and neighbors are expected to attend.
The Madison Symphony conducted by Gary Thor Wedow, members of the Metropolitan Chorus and Madison Opera stars will be presenting everyone’s favorite arias, duets, and other musical treats from operas and Broadway. The female soloists will be sopranos Emily Birsan and Angela Brown and mezzo-soprano Kelsey Park. Male soloists will be tenor Scott Quinn and baritone Sidney Outlaw.
There is a contest that asks people to submit photos, and 200-word essays about their most memorable Opera in the Park aspect, such as picnic basket goodies, or a favorite song or aria that comes to mind. Four winners will each get a pair of Prelude Dinner tickets, preferred seating at the performance and tickets to the post-concert reception where winners may wish to get pictures taken with their favorite performers for future poster printing.
The event will take place in Garner Park, 333 S. Rose Road, Madison. The park will open at 7:00 am on July 23. The program will start at 8:00 pm. Attendees will want to bring lawn chairs, blankets, food, and beverages.
