Sioux Falls gets ready for the holidays

November 2, 2013 by

Downtown Holidays is returning to Sioux Falls this month.

The event kicks off with the 22nd annual Parade of Lights, which will include floats and marching bands, and will travel down Phillips Avenue from 14th to 15th Streets. Everyone who participates in the parade is eligible to win honors such as Best Use of Lights, Best Workmanship, Spirit of Sioux Falls, Mayor’s Choice, and the Downtown Sioux Falls Award.

The awards party will take place on the same evening at the Holiday Inn City Center, and the Jingle Bell Run is also taking place on the same night starting at Falls Park Arch.

Other activities during Downtown Holidays are free horse-drawn rides every Saturday and Santa appearing in Shriver Square on two Saturdays in December. The Downtown Gives special coupon book is available for sale from selected retailers, proceeds from which help to benefit to The Good Shepherd Center.

Those participating in the parade will no doubt be investing in services such as banner printing from Sioux Falls print companies, either to hang on a float or to carry in advance of a marching band.

The Parade of Lights takes place on November 29 beginning at 7:30 pm, with the Jingle Bell Run beginning at 6:30 pm on the same night and the awards party getting started at 8:45 pm. Children can visit with Santa at Shriver Square on December 14 and 21 from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. For more information about any of these activities, call 605-338-4009.
