New Newark music venue a success

In a little over a month since its opening, Thirty One West has proven to be very popular, says a Newark Advocate article, drawing patrons from throughout the area to enjoy the 12 shows that have already played the venue.

Thirty One West, a flexible event venue in newark, offers both a ballroom that can hold 500 people standing or 250 seated, and a lounge and bar known as the Bootlegger.

Tom Atha, who owns the place, says several thousand people have already come to the venue, and approximately 60-70% of the attendees have come from outside Newark, from places such as Athens, Detroit, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and West Virginia. Atha says it’s always been a goal to build an audience of out-of-town attendees, and he is gratified they have begun attending so early in the venue’s operation.

Atha also revealed that six or seven people have reserved the space for weddings in 2017, and others are making reservations for their holiday parties. People seem to like the building, which was built in 1902, and they often thank him for saving it.

At the present time, the venue is scheduling approximately four shows per month for the Spring. In addition to shows in the ballroom, smaller events can be held in the Bootlegger bar. Currently, various artists are being featured on Thursdays, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Venues like this can benefit by working with flyer printing companies, which can print handouts listing current and upcoming performances.
