Dublin dancers to hold fundraiser for cancer research
February 7, 2014 by Mark
Movement Mission, the Dublin-based dance charity, has a mission of its own this weekend – to help raise funds for melanoma research in memory of Bonnie Layric, a dublin resident who was also a dance teacher at the center.
Layric succumbed to the disease five years ago, prompting the Dance Centre patrons to schedule a memorial of three shows, including a gala. The performances will honor Layric at the same time they raise funds for cancer research.
The group, which was formed in July 2013 and is led by Christina Taylor and Michaela Carter, meets weekly at the Dublin Dance Centre & Gymnastics Centre. The group’s members first met and danced through their church, then moved to the center, combining the two groups.
The dances are scheduled for this evening at 7:30 pm and tomorrow at 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm. The later of tomorrow’s performances is also the gala and will include drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and dancing. Tickets are available at the Movement Mission’s website and are priced at $22 for the February 7 show and the February 8 matinee. For the gala, the tickets are $80. The shows will be held in the Abbey Theater, located in the Dublin Community Recreation Center on Post Road.
The company could work with a poster printing company to create colorful displays to put up throughout Dublin.
