Christmas is on its way to St. Louis, Missouri, and the city is getting ready for the holidays with two events in November – Macy’s Festival of Lights and the Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade.

According to the city’s events calendar, the Festival of Lights is set for tomorrow, November 22, at 6.25 pm. That’s when the Christmas lights will be turned on in the downtown area, marking the official start of the holidays. A fireworks show will follow immediately after and there will be entertainment and activities from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

The parade will take place on Thanksgiving, which falls on November 28 this year. More than 130 parade units are expected to take part, including giant balloon figures, floats, equestrian units, carriages, storybook characters, and marching bands from throughout the area. Santa Claus will be on hand as well, to say ‘Merry Christmas’ at the parade’s end.

The parade begins in the downtown area at 8.45 am, at Washington Avenue and North 4th Street. It goes south on North 4th Street to Market Street, then goes west on Market to 10th Street, where it ends. This year’s Honorary Grand Marshall is Mary Engelbreit, the world famous illustrator and graphic artist, who is a St. Louis native. Engelbreit has designed a poster for kids ages 5 to 12 to color, with the winner riding in the parade.

St. Louis officials could work with banner printing experts to create holiday banners for use along the parade route and throughout the season.
