Running for Good Shelter

Fundraisers are limbering up for a charity walk, due to take place this weekend.

The R.U.S.H. 5K benefit: Uniting and Strengthening Homes takes place this Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Starting from the main stage, the route will take walkers along the friendly, horizontal Katy Trail at Frontier Park, 500 S. Riverside Drive in St. Charles.

The race is sponsored by The Sparrow’s Nest Maternity Home and Bridgeway Behavioral Health. Big River Running Company will also be present to time more competitive runners and walkers.

Banner printing, bib printing, and T-shirt printing are certainly underway in St. Charles for this occasion which also includes a one mile fun run and 100-yard dash for kids.

Awards will be given to overall winners and to the top three finishers of each category. Every contestant will receive a goody bag and T-shirt. Entry fees vary – an individual is charged $30, and the price tag for a family of four is $70. Participants can sign up online at

The Sparrow’s Nest Maternity Home is a Christian shelter in St. Charles whose purpose is to educate and provide services to young females who are homeless, pregnant, or are raising children. It is hoped that women are empowered to make healthy decisions in regard to themselves and their offspring through these services.

Founded in 1978, Bridgeway Behavioral Health is an organization that treats addictive disorders, sexual assault, and domestic violence in a family and community-based way in St. Charles and St. Louis. As a result of this, clients are given a complete recovery strategy.
