Zumba zooms into St. Ann

October 29, 2012 by

The existing aerobics and Zumba class options available through St. Ann Parks & Recreation have been expanded, featuring two new choices for locals looking for a fun way to get fit

The first, Family Zumba, invites the whole family to exercise together. Welcoming anyone aged three or older, familiar Zumba rhythms (including cumbia, reggaeton, and salsa) set the tone, with songs oriented to the youngsters. Classes will be on Wednesdays, 6:00 pm – 6:45 pm from November 7 – December 19. City residents pay $20 per child and $10 per adult, while non-residents pay $30 per child and $15 per adult.

Zumba Tone, on the other hand, adds extra, targeted, whole-body resistance to the fun of Zumba dance steps. Students are encouraged to bring hand weights to classes, which run Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm, from November 5 – December 19. City residents pay $30, while non-residents will be asked for $45.

Zumba is a dance/exercise program that originated in Colombia and has grown in popularity in the United States over recent years. It is estimated that as many as 14 million people worldwide participate in classes each week. The choreography encompasses a range of dance styles, from hip-hop to samba to Bollywood.

Registration for November to December classes at the St. Ann Community Center continues for another week, and may be completed in person at the location during opening hours.

Class payment may be made by cash or check and is due at registration. For questions about classes, costs, or registration, call the community center at 314 429 4545. Brochure and flyer printing of current and upcoming class sessions may be available upon request.
