Olivette company chosen for special project

Payne Family Homes, based in Olivette, has been asked to build St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s 2014 St. Jude Dream Home.

Payne is one of the fastest growing home builders in the St. Louis area. Alan Hargett, who is the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway Construction Specialist, said the hospital is always on the lookout for a good builder who shares the philosophy of Danny Thomas, who founded the hospital. It was Thomas’s idea that no child should die before his or her life truly began. Payne shares this vision, and Hargett praised the company as an organization that supports the idea of neighbors helping on another.

The giveaway idea came from Dr. Donald Mack, a pediatrician originally from Shreveport, Louisiana. The first Dream Home was built there, and the contest raised $160,000, which goes back to St. Jude Children’s Hospital for their ongoing research efforts. There have been more than 340 homes given away in the Dream Home efforts, and these contests have raised more than $270m.

The Dream Home is Payne’s model, called Breckenridge II. It is a four-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom floor plan of almost 4,500 square feet. The Dream Home will be located in St. Peter’s, and is valued at approximately $510,000. Many of the subcontractors are donating their time to the project. Tickets are $100 for a chance to win the house, and there are only 9,000 available.

The hospital could work with brochure printers to design a mailer for area residents, describing the contest and the hospital’s work.
