Dorsett Road to become a Great Street
September 8, 2012 by James
City officials for Maryland Heights were thrilled to announce on August 31 that Dorsett Street has been chosen as one of three streets in the St. Louis region to participate in the Great Streets project – an initiative under the mandate of the East-West Gateway Council of Government. The project aims to transform Dorsett Street into the main street for the city of Maryland Heights.
The area that will undergo streetscape improvements extends from Creve Coeur Park in the west to Lindbergh Park in the east. The goal is to create an attractive streetscape for people, residents, and businesses that encourages pedestrians to walk the streets and shop at local stores. All modes of travel, including cars, public transit, pedestrians, bicyclists, rollerbladers, and scooters, will be considered in the improvement project, which has an emphasis on safety, improving access, and ease of use.
Many opportunities exist to promote the streetscape improvement project, from flyer printing of the different stages of the construction, to poster printing of the final results. Brochure printers will also be able to design attractive layouts that illustrate the transformation of Dorsett Street into one of the Great Streets of the region.
The City has just released a request for qualifications to provide planning services for the project, which will include an analysis of existing conditions, a market/land use study, detailed conceptual plan ,and a preliminary scope and budget projection for the implementation of the project. The consultant will hopefully be chosen this fall.
