Columbia merchants prepare for the holiday season

The holidays are rapidly approaching and businesses are gearing up for a successful shopping season. One way that merchants in the North Village Arts District of Columbia are kicking off the celebrations is with the Living Windows Festival early this December.

Many businesses in the area participate in the festival by presenting live models in their shop windows. Some of the themes local stores will be featuring this year include “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “Fishing you a Merry Christmas” and “Season’s Greetings: an Interactive Holiday Card.” One store will also be putting on a live nativity scene.

The event is designed to launch the holiday shopping season and to let the public know that the stores will now have extended hours of operation, while they enjoy the night’s activities.

Also, there will be several other events taking place on the night including open houses, free holiday treats and refreshments, live holiday music, free carriage rides and entertainment from groups such as the Stephen’s College Dance Team. Santa Claus will also be appearing at the Landmark Bank.

It’s likely that the merchants who are participating in the Columbia festival will be letting their customers know about it. When stores want to advertise a special event they often ask their local printing companies to provide products such as posters and flyers.

The Living Windows Festival is taking place in The District on December 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. To find out more about the evening’s events call 573-442-6816.
