Chesterfield to have a howl with Pumpkin Run

October 16, 2013 by

Chesterfield’s Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its 12th Annual Gumbo Flats Pumpkin Run/Walk later this month.

The 10k and 5k event will offer out and back courses for its 100 plus runners. Medals for male and female first, second and third place winners in 13 age categories will be presented. All participants in the accompanying ½ mile Children Fun Race will receive completion awards. Pre-registration guarantees a long sleeve t-shirt, though no shirts will be available at race day registration. Participants can preregister either online or at Chesterfield’s Chamber of Commerce. Race Day registration opens 6:30 am at the race site. Printing companies can provide sponsorships by contacting The Chamber of Commerce office at 636-532-3399.

Wings of Hope, the world’s oldest and largest aviation-based volunteer humanitarian charity, will benefit from some the proceeds. Funding medical, humanitarian, and poverty relief programs, the charity’s mission is to educate the world’s poorest people in life skills that will enable them to become self-supportive. From one airplane provided to an African humanitarian group in 1962 to more than 3,000 volunteers stationed at 154 bases worldwide, this organization operates entirely on donations and does not accept any government support.

The event will be held October 19 with a start time of 8:00 am, at the crossroads of Edison Avenue and Long Road in Chesterfield Valley’s Chesterfield Towne Centre. The half-mile Children’s Fun Run for children aged 10 and under begins at 9:00 am. Attendees of all ages are welcome to wear Halloween costumes.
