Softball tournament in August to benefit summer camp

Public safety, emergency services, and military organizations recently announced that they will be holding a softball tournament on Saturday August 3rd to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association at Sand Creek Park, in Coon Rapids just outside New Brighton. No doubt poster printing and flyer printing are being used to announce this event, so that $10,000 can be raised for the MDA summer camp kids.

The event is being organized by the members of the Coon Rapids police and fire departments, calling themselves the Guns and Hoses under the leadership of Bryan Platz, a police officer from Coons Rapids, and the Rum River Lawmen of the Sheriff’s Office of Anoka County, under the leadership of Cmdr. Kevin Hallweg. Other participants signed up to play include the Brooklyn Park Police Department, New Brighton Public Safety, the United States Marine Corps, and St. Paul legends The Mudpuppies. Platz has said there are spots for more teams to register and corporate sponsors are also welcome to support the event.

The format of the tournament will be 10 to 12 teams, and each team is guaranteed to play three games. The start of the tournament will be at 9:00am with the championship to take place at 7:00pm.

The Coon Rapids North Star Lions Club will be holding a full-service concession stand. Children will also be able to play in an activity area with a bouncy house and a climbing wall, as well as emergency services and military vehicles.
