Dala to perform tomorrow in Grand Rapids
February 6, 2013 by James
Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther of Dala, Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year for 2010 winners, will be performing in Grad Rapids tomorrow.
The two are best friends and met in their music class in high school in 2002. Since then, they have released five albums and toured extensively throughout North America, being favorites of the music scene in Canada. No doubt flyer printing and poster printing is being used by the Center to announce the concert of this duo, whose music is a new twist on acoustic pop.
According to the host of CBC’s ‘Canada Live’, Andrew Craig, Dala’s music is unpretentious yet has an extraordinary blend of music which makes it just as appropriate for a large concert stage as it is for a small 1960s coffee house. The duo is very entertaining, displaying fully how much both members enjoy singing and telling stories between songs that are different for every performance.
Dala’s singing venues are varied, ranging from opening for such artists as Richie Havens, Tom Cochrane, and Arlo Guthrie to performing at The New Orleans Jazz Festival, California’s Strawberry Festival, and the Edmonton Folk Festival. In 2009, at the Newport Folk Festival for its 50th anniversary, Dala was the only Canadian act that was invited to perform.
With the album ‘Everyone is Someone’ that was released in 2009, Carabine and Walther earned their fifth Folk Music Award nomination in Canada. The Irish Post considered it the Album of the Year.
Dala’s performance tomorrow will be at the Myles Reif Performing Arts Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
