Deadline to submit art works is closing in

March 21, 2013 by

The Savage Arts Council is currently accepting submissions from artists who wish to participate in their annual juried art competition, but there is not too much time to spare.

The competition will award $1,225 in cash prizes to artists in five categories: Oil, Pastels and Drawing, Photography, Three Dimensional (including sculpture, glass, and photography), and Water Media (both watercolor and acrylic). Prizes will be given for the top three positions in each category, and there is also a Best in Show prize and the Marion W. Savage People’s Choice Award. The competition is open to all residents of Minnesota.

The chosen artworks will be put on display in various places, such as the Public Library, City Hall and local businesses in Savage during May. A reception and awards ceremony will be held before the works can be viewed by the public.

The deadline to apply for the competition is April 12. Submission fees for Savage residents are $30 for each piece or $35 for two, while non-residents of the city pay $40 for one or $45 for two. The maximum number of entries is two per person, and the submission fees include a one-year membership to the Savage Arts Council.

Artists will likely come from all over the area, including nearby Burnsville, and local printing companies will probably be called upon to provide advertising materials.

The awards reception will be held at the McColl Pond Environmental Learning Center on April 28. Various venues in Savage will be displaying the winning artworks from May 1 to 29. For more information, call 952-388-7730.
