Bloomington Children’s Theatre Company receiving glowing reviews
December 4, 2011 by James
If the Children’s Theatre Company’s rendition of The Wizard of Oz is anything to go by, Bloomington’s reputation as a supporter of the Arts is justified.
Although Opening Night was officially November 8th, performances will be taking place from now until January 8th 2012. The exact times will differ depending on the day, but the schedule is listed as 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and 11:00 a.m. followed by 2:00 p.m. for Saturdays until then. In any case, the flyer and poster printing that’s likely around town will provide any additional information needed.
Garnering attention from the likes of Pioneer Press, the Star Tribune, and Minnesota Monthly, there’s no question that this version of The Wizard of Oz is of unusually high quality.
With words like “vivid” and “limitless” appearing in the review, here’s what Ellen Burkhardt of Minnesota Monthly had to say:
“To anyone who thinks magic can only happen in the movies, can only be accomplished through special effects and green screens, challenge that thought by attending The Wizard of Oz. People fly, monkeys have wings, fire leaps from broomsticks, poppies sing…if that’s not magic, what is?”
In the same vein, Rohan Preston of the Star Tribune summarized the performance as follows:
“”Oz” is about a group of characters who seek things outside of themselves, only to realize that they have what they were looking for all along. That is a timeless message that director Rothstein has vividly shown to be relevant today.”
With tickets going anywhere from $19-$49, this is an event the whole family can enjoy.
