The balloons are coming back to Olathe this August

July 3, 2013 by

The annual Great Midwest Balloon Fest is coming back to Olathe, Kansas for two days this August.

The festival will feature a wide array of hot air balloons. Guests will be able to take tethered balloon rides, enjoy specially shaped balloons, and balloon glows as they witness or take part in a charity challenge race which will benefit 25 local charities.

The challenge will take place in the form of a ‘Hare and Hound’ race, during which the hare will drop targets and the hounds will have to mark those targets. The winning team will claim $10,000.

In addition, there will be carnival rides, kites, children’s activities, doughnut and pie eating contests, and musical entertainment. Vendors will be on hand selling a variety of food and non-food items, which will probably include jewelry, clothing, and balloon-related souvenirs.

Vendors who will be selling their items will probably come from all over the area, including nearby Overland Park. Many of them are likely to be working with local printing companies to design and produce items, such as signs and banners to draw attention to their booths. Organizers will also probably be investing in items such as flyers and brochures to advertise the festival and what it has to offer.

The Great Midwest Balloon Fest will take place at the Great Mall of the Great Plains from August 9 – 10. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. For more information, call 913-522-0801.
