Donate to Toys for Tots in Woodland Park

The Kiwanis Club of Portage is holding Toys for Tots drive on December 3 in Woodland Park. Admission to the event is one new, unwrapped toy or a cash donation. There will be lots of free activities available for the kids including inflatable playhouses and pictures with Santa Claus. A free chilli lunch will also be served to all including chilli, a beverage and dessert.
This event is the Kiwanis Club’s major fund-raising event for their dictionary program. Every 3rd grade student in Portage receives a personalized dictionary; 600 are given out each year. They raise money by offering local businesses the chance to advertise on the placemats that will be used at the event. Each advertisement costs $50 and businesses not only get exposure at this event, they are also mentioned on the Kiwanis Club’s website, their Facebook page, their club directory and in press releases. It is a relatively low cost way to get your business known in Portage. While many businesses rely on flyer printing, which is a low-cost way to advertise, an event such as this brings a lot more attention. Also, this year the placemat ads have been so successful that in addition to raising money for the dictionary program, the Kiwanis Club had enough left over to serve the free chilli lunch.
So many kids go without at Christmas, the Toys for Tots program of the U.S. Marine Corps ensures that most of them will have at least one toy this year.
