Indianapolis captures gymnastics championships

It was announced Friday, November 2, that the U.S. Gymnastics Championships will be held in Indianapolis in 2015. The president of USA Gymnastics, Steve Penny, made the announcement in conjunction with Indiana Sports Corp.
Penny said the decision to bring what he called the ‘Super Bowl of gymnastics’ was easy, since the city as well as the Indiana Sports Corp are known for their ability to stage successful, quality events. He noted that the 2005 nationals were extremely successful, and expects that the 2015 events will enjoy the same reception.
Indianapolis has hosted the gymnastics championships three times before – in 1986, 1998, and 2005. The 2015 competition will be held from August 13 – 16, 2015, at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Also excited about the event is Allison Melangton, president of Indiana Sports Corp. Melangton said that Americans have enjoyed watching plenty of sport this year, and the enthusiasm fans have shown for such competitions means Indianapolis can expect a large turnout from locals and visitors as well.
The competition schedule alternates women’s and men’s events. The women will lead off with juniors and seniors gymnastics on August 13 and again on August 15. The men follow with juniors and seniors gymnastics on August 14 and again August 16. This competition traditionally determines who will be selected as members of the U.S. team to compete in the World Championships.
Indianapolis itself could print brochures describing the event, including the listing times and dates for the various competitions. It could also print posters for display around the city when the competition is closer.
